    Biography<\/h3><\/div>
    Born and raised in Hong Kong, Donald CHAN Hong Yin specializes in Chinese popular religion and Chinese diaspora studies, with a focus on Cantonese history in Singapore and Malaysia from the nineteenth century to the present. He obtained both his Bachelor's and MPhil degrees from the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing at Hong Kong Baptist University. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked as an Administrative Assistant for two years. In 2018, he left the shores of home to pursue his interest in Chinese diaspora and Chinese religion. His intellectual sojourn took him to the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, where he explored the diverse yet fascinating Chinese cultures in the Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore. He obtained his PhD in 2023 and then left tropical Southeast Asia to set out for the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. He subsequently completed his post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of East Asian Studies at Tel Aviv University. After experiencing two years of a turbulent life in Israel, he returned to Hong Kong and joined Hong Kong Metropolitan University as a Lecturer. Some of his works have been accepted for publication in Asian Ethnology, Translocal Chinese: East Asian Perspectives (TCEA), Religion, and \u83ef\u4eba\u5b97\u6559\u7814\u7a76. Extending his interests in examining the Cantonese diaspora, he has started new research on the multiple connotations of \u201cCantonese\u201d in Southeast Asia.<\/h5><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
