<strong>14 March 2026<\/strong>, the School of Open Learning participated in the Community Emergency Responder Scheme organised by the Fire Services Department. Through a series of professional and practical training sessions, participants enhanced their ability to respond effectively to emergency situations.<\/p><p>During the training, instructors from the Fire Services Department introduced common types of emergencies encountered in the community, including fires, traffic accidents, drowning incidents, and hill fires. Students were guided to consider appropriate emergency response measures in different scenarios, helping them build a solid foundation of rescue knowledge. Participants also learned proper operation and safety precautions for fire extinguishers and various firefighting tools, while receiving first-aid training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) procedures. Under the guidance of instructors, students took turns practising these skills to ensure accuracy in every step. Many students expressed that the hands-on experience significantly boosted their confidence to step forward and assist others during emergencies.<\/p><p>At the conclusion of the event, students completed a written assessment and were awarded certificates, bringing the course to a successful close. The Community Emergency Responder Scheme not only enhanced students' emergency response and first aid knowledge but also thoroughly prepared them to cope with unexpected incidents in the
