The HKMU Bursaries, funded by philanthropic corporations and individuals, provide students facing financial difficulties with bursaries that cover either the full or half amount of their tuition fees.<\/span><\/p>

Eligibility<\/span><\/i><\/div>

  1. Applicants must be local continuing HKMU students who have passed a course in part-time (distance learning) programmes, and the course may lead to the award of Bachelor's Degrees, Bachelor's Degrees with Honours and\/or Postgraduate Degrees<\/li><\/ol><\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>

    Note(1) The 'year' is determined by the starting point of the first assistance accepted by individual students.<\/h5>
    Note (2) The total amount of bursary granted to a student throughout their study at HKMU should not exceed $50,000 (based on the actual amount assisted, not the full tuition fees of the courses).<\/h5>
    Note (3) The approved amount may not necessarily cover all the enrolled courses. An applicant usually will not receive more than $20,000 in bursary each academic term.<\/h5>
    Note (4) If a bursary application is unsuccessful, it will automatically be considered for a loan, provided that the applicant is eligible.<\/h5>
    Note (5) Full bursary recipients are NOT eligible for additional assistance for the same course, including but not limited to government schemes such as the Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS), Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP), Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS), Continuing Education Fund (CEF), and the Interest-free Tuition Fee Instalment Plan offered by the Bank of China (Hong Kong).<\/h5><\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>

    Assessment Criteria and Announcement of Result<\/span><\/i><\/div>

    Assessment Criteria<\/u><\/p>

    1. The financial situation of the applicants and the family members residing with the applicant will be assessed. In general, the bursaries are offered to applicants with lower \"Adjusted Family Income\" (AFI), which is calculated by taking the total family income less medical expenses, dividing it by the number of family members \"plus 1\". Only 30% of the annual incomes of other family members are counted towards the annual family income. For single-parent families of 2 to 3 members, the \"plus-1 factor\" in the divisor of the AFI formula will be increased to 2. For the 2025\/26 academic year, the AFI threshold for bursary assistance is $87,846, and the ceiling of deductible medical expenses for each family member is $23,800.<\/li>
    2. The assessment of AFI is conducted on a yearly basis. This means that applicants are only required to provide their financial information and proof ONCE a year.\u00a0<\/li>
    3. Eligible applicants are not guaranteed to be offered bursaries.<\/li>
    4. The assessment results and proposed allocations will be reviewed by the HKMU Student Financial Awards Committee. The type of assistance offered to individual successful applicants and the number of successful applicants are determined by the applicants' financial circumstances, the criteria for making an award like academic performance, the funds available in any term, and other factors the Committee deems necessary. The bursary allocation will also be subject to individual donors' specification.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>

      Announcement of Result<\/u><\/p>

      1. The application result will be announced by late Apr 2026.<\/li>
      2. Bursary recipients should commit to making every effort to complete the course(s) for which they have accepted financial assistance. They may be required to provide a full explanation for any subsequent absences from examinations or withdrawals from course(s) that are financed by bursaries.<\/li>
      3. The bursaries are made possible by the generous donations from donors or the University.\u00a0 Bursary recipients are obligated to recognise and express gratitude for the donor's generosity in various ways. This may include writing a thank you letter and attending related events organised by the University or the donor when invited.<\/li><\/ol><\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>

          How to Apply<\/span><\/i><\/div>

            1. Applicants should read the\u00a0\"Guidance Notes for HKMU Student Financial Assistance Scheme\"<\/a>\u00a0before completing the online application form.<\/li>
            2. Applicants should apply online through the student portal \"My HKMU\" (http:\/\/www.hkmu.edu.hk\/myHKMU<\/a>);<\/li>
            3. Applicants should complete the course registration for the 2025 Summer Term before the closing of the bursary\/loan application period (check the courses to be offered in this term<\/a>). For enquiries about course registration, please contact the Admissions & Enrolment Team (Distance Learning) of the Registry.<\/li>
            4. Course places are only reserved upon full settlement of tuition fees. Applicants may consider paying the tuition fees themselves during the course registration process if they wish to secure a place in the course(s). The Student Affairs Office will NOT reserve course places for any applicants. In case students decide not to pay the tuition fees during course registration, the course and class places are not guaranteed, however, they are still eligible to apply for the financial assistance.<\/li>
            5. If the bursary application is ultimately unsuccessful, applicants who have successfully completed course registration cannot use this as a justification for course withdrawal, and the paid tuition fees will NOT be refunded or transferred to another term or for another use.<\/li><\/ol>
