Step into the world of Muay Thai, a sport that not only strengthens the body but also instils unwavering determination. Ling Sze Wang, a passionate physiotherapy student at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), found his calling in Muay Thai eight years ago. Through years of dedicated training, he underwent a remarkable transformation while embracing the values of perseverance and an indomitable spirit.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ling Sze Wang, a Year 4 student and certificated Muay Thai instructor, was initially drawn to individual sports like badminton and squash due to his introverted nature. However, the moment he discovered Muay Thai and experienced its emphasis on speed and explosive power, he fell head over heels for the sport. Ling recalls, “Back in my third year of secondary school, Muay Thai gained popularity, and I decided to give it a shot. I joined a gym with my classmates, and gradually, my interest in Muay Thai grew stronger.”<\/p>

Inspired by his coach and driven by his determination, Ling set his sights on becoming a Muay Thai instructor. Obtaining a coaching licence proved challenging, requiring theoretical knowledge and practical skills in target shooting, attacking, and defending. Ling successfully acquired his licence\u00a0and now devotes weekly time to teaching Muay Thai at various non-governmental organisations.<\/p>

Teaching boxing skills to a diverse array of students has not only honed Ling’s coaching abilities but also nurtured his communication skills and self-expression. Training in Muay Thai has not only strengthened his physical prowess but has also positively influenced his perspective on life. Ling believes, “No matter what sport you pursue, mastering the fundamentals and cultivating discipline will yield results as long as you put in the effort.” He firmly advocates for perseverance and maintaining an unwavering spirit in sports and life.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

While pursuing his degree in the Department of Physiotherapy, School of Nursing & Health Sciences at HKMU, Ling Sze Wang gains practical knowledge and clinical experience essential for his future career. The programme offers valuable opportunities for internships, totalling 70 hours, where students work within Hospital Authority organisations and participate in community health and primary care initiatives. Ling actively organises talks for the elderly at Yan Chai Hospital, utilising his skills to convey health information effectively using clear and accessible language. Furthermore, he has been involved in activities at elderly centres, assessing the risk of sarcopenia among seniors and teaching them preventive exercises. Ling’s external internships have allowed him to apply his knowledge in various professional roles, enriching his learning experience.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Reflecting upon his four years on campus, Ling acknowledges the enriching aspects of university life beyond academics. The department regularly organises special activities that foster interaction and exchange among students of different years, aiding in his adaptation to the university environment and shaping his future direction. Ling also appreciates the solid teacher-student relationships on campus, with HKMU often arranging engaging activities. For instance, he had the opportunity to participate in a sailing activity, where he acquired knowledge and skills related to sailing while enjoying the thrill of the experience.<\/p>

Ling Sze Wang’s exceptional academic performance has been recognised with consecutive placements on the Dean’s List in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences. Upon graduation, he aspires to work in a large acute hospital, eager to refine his skills in handling diverse patients and complex illnesses. Ling said, “Working in acute hospitals exposes me to various medical cases, and my goal is to improve my expertise in such a dynamic environment.”<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
