Non-local Peer Mentoring Scheme

Student Affairs Office Non-local Student Support   Non-local Peer Mentoring Scheme

The Non-local Peer Mentoring Scheme aims to support non-local freshmen to adjust to university life at HKMU throughout the 1st year of study.

Our senior Non-local Mentors (NLM) will provide Mentees practical advice and guidance on their readiness on university study. Through social interaction, NLM will share their valuable past experience and knowledge, answer mentees’ queries, demonstrate exemplary practices and help you immerse into the Hong Kong and HKMU community.

Year 1 non-local new students studying full-time undergraduate programme are eligible to join this scheme.

Each mentor will take care of 2-4 mentees according to the mentee’s study programmes and interests. During the 9-month mentorship period, mentees can take initiative to seek advice and guidance from mentors through meeting, social media, email and/or telephone. Moreover, mentees can enjoy the privilege to join the activities under the COSMOS such as Hong Kong Tram Party, in-depth tours and so on.

Mentees can:

  • gain practical advice, encouragement and support;
  • learn from the experiences of others;
  • develop strategies for dealing with adjustment and learning issues;
  • make new friends across year groups and programmes; and
  • establish a sense of belonging to the university.
