年青校友Eric Cheung將分享自大學開始10年來創立及營運「染樂工房」的故事。成功出席線上分享會的同學可獲得「染樂工房染色體驗課程」乙次,親身體驗Eric的生意營運模式。
Young alumni Mr. Eric Cheung has found Dyelicious for 10 years and will share his startup story. Students who attend the sharing session will be offered a session of dyeing workshop at Dyelicious to understand his business model.

Eric shared his startup story with the junior students and encouraged them to start their own business. He suggested students to find their passion related with their interests, in parallel with their knowledge and education. He mentioned it is also important to find a trusted partner to work for the common goals. Last but not least, he recommended SAO MetroChallenge implementation fund to students for turning their ideas into viable products or services.

Ways Out 是成立於 2021年的社會企業。他們提供培訓及工作機會給弱勢母親,將家居廚餘升級再造成環保首飾,幫助她們提升技能和取得改善財政狀況的機會。
Ways Out is a social enterprise founded in 2021. They provide trainings and job opportunities to underprivileged mothers to upcycle household food waste into sustainable jewelry. The aim is to help them enhance their capabilities and have the chances of improving financial situations.

Ways Out代表會跟我們分享他們社企理念,包括:家居廚餘升級再造和提供機會給弱勢母親,以及如何在社會責任和盈利間平衡。成功出席線上分享會的同學可獲得Ways Out DIY Kit乙份,親手造自己的環保首飾之餘同時力撐環保跟弱勢母親!
The representative of Ways Out will share their company mission, including household waste upcycling and providing job opportunities to underprivileged mothers, how to strike a balance between social responsibility and business profit. Students who attended the sharing session will receive a “Ways Out DIY jewelry kit” to produce your own sustainable jewelry and show your supports to underprivileged mothers.

Ways Out shared their experience in promoting food waste reduction in Hong Kong. Although they faced difficulties in funding and recruiting at the beginning of operation, they have solved the problems with their warm-heart and persistence, especially the cohesion of all team members, in only one year. They believed that the opportunities will keep coming when someone continues to try. Finally, they encouraged students to tackle social issues and help the communities by implementing creative and comprehensive ideas.

Summary
由專業律師提供基本創業法律知識,例如:商業登記,制訂合約等。還會提醒有意創業者可能會面對的法律陷阱,如:處理牌照及知識產權需要注意的事項。
The solicitor will share the basic legal knowledge for startups, e.g. company registration procedure, issuing business contract. Moreover, some common legal traps for startup, e.g. licensing issues, IP ownership will also be introduced.

To start a business, Mr. Fung encouraged students to select suitable business ownership by introducing the pros and cons of different ownership types. As for the company incorporation, Mr. Fung reminded students about director’s responsibilities, contract execution, trademarks and copyrights. He also illustrated contract pitfalls through case studies in Hong Kong. Finally, he shared the ways for students to understand legal traps and potential problems.

It is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success. Yuen from Education for good introduced a new way of thinking and working “Design Thinking” to all participants. Seeking to understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems to identify alternative strategies, Design Thinking aims to provide a solution-based approach to solving problems. Students also find it useful in adapting the five-phase model of “Design Thinking”.

精益創業(Lean startup)是一套開發新產品的方法。此工具重視市場和產品測試,多於周詳的計劃;用同理心瞭解用家的需要,多於自我中心的判斷;提倡在開發新產品過程中,邀請用家試用和參與設計無論是創業,還是推行服務或產品創新,此工具都可以大派用場。
“Lean startup” is a methodology for developing businesses and products that aims to shorten product development cycles and rapidly discover if a proposed business model is viable. It helps you to develop a business model at least cost & high efficiency.

Yuen has introduced the way to start a business with minimum capital. Students were inspired by the build-measure-learn loop mindset. The concepts and tools of lean startup, as well as living examples, have facilitated students in generating business plans in a more efficient manner.

8 awarded teams have joined the re-union sessions. Two guest speakers, Yo from Festyle and Luke from Kaifong Tour have introduced their organizations respectively and shared with others their arrangement under the pandemic situation with some tips. They have also shared their key of success in running sustainable start-ups. All teams have enjoyed the networking session at the end and hope that they can learn from each other!

Ethan from ThirsTea and Dennis from Tim’s Moment have shared their entrepreneurial story to the junior students. They faced different challenges at the beginning of their journey, such as the lack of professional knowledge, capital or customer bases, while finally they have overcome these difficulties. They all mentioned that attitude and solid experience are the most treasurable parts throughout the process, so they encouraged junior students to make good use of the resources from MetroChallenge to acculumate more business experience to enrich themselves.

深知同學們由於疫情緣故而未能回校進行面授課程,缺乏擴闊社交圈子以及找尋合適創業夥伴的機會。因此於創業月的尾聲,學生事務處特意提供一個快速認識潛在創業夥伴的寶貴機會。
成功登記以後,同學均有數次機會安排到Zoom分組討論室與潛在創業夥伴互相認識。

One of the important goals of social innovation is to develop business opportunities with a sustainable business model, while addressing social issues such as poverty, underemployment, environmental protection and education. Through social innovation strategy, you can understand the latest social innovation trends, opportunities and challenges from multiple perspectives.

William has introduced some authentic examples of social innovation, which ideas were generated from social enterprises and even individuals. He suggested that social innovation does not mean the use of advanced technology, but how people respond to social issues by re-allocating the current resources to people in need. Finally, he encouraged students to discover more from their daily lives.
