Student Cards

All enrolled students will be issued the University’s Student Identity Card. The Student Identity Card is an important proof of identity for using the University’s facilities and for taking attendance during classes or examinations. The card is only valid when it is used in conjunction with the Hong Kong Identity Card or passport (if a Hong Kong Identity Card is not available).

You will need to submit a recent photo of yourself for the issuance of Student Cards, please submit your recent photo within 10 working days from the date of your registration or from the date of the admission offer letter if you are a new student. Please see detailed procedures below. 

Student Cards for New Students

The Registry will send emails to all new students before the start of the term to inform them to upload their photos online for the issuance of Student Cards. If you are a new student, and if you do not receive any email notification from the Registry after the start of term, please inform the Student Records of the Registry.  You will need to submit a recent photo of yourself for the issuance of Student Cards, please see the procedures below. 

Renew Student Cards for Continuing Students

If you are a continuing/current student and your Student Card has expired, please follow the procedure below to submit a recent photo of yourself for the renewal of your Student Card.

If you have lost your Student Card, you should apply for a replacement card immediately through MyHKMU and pay an administrative fee (HK$100). The fee paid will not be refunded.

HKMU Student Identity Card – Photo Collection Instructions

To ensure smooth and accurate production of your Student Identity Card, please carefully read the following instructions and make sure your photo fully complies with the requirements before submission. Please note that you cannot change accepted photo after submission.

You may submit your photo via the MyHKMU Portal or the HKMU Student Mobile App:

A. MyHKMU Portal

  1. Login to "MyHKMU" (https://myhkmu.hkmu.edu.hk). Before your first logon, please follow the instruction there to create your single password.
  2. Select your programme of study under “My Programme”.
  3. Select “Student Records” under “Academic.
  4. Select “Photo Submission for Student ID Card” under “Student Records" .
  5. Click the “Go to Photo Submission” button to start the process.

B. HKMU Student Mobile App

  1. Login to "HKMU Student Mobile App". The latest version of "HKMU Student Mobile App" is available through App Store and Google Play.
  2. Select “Photo Submission” to start the process.

Your digital photo must meet the following technical and visual specifications to be accepted for Student ID card printing:

Condition

·       Full front view of face with eyes open and clearly visible

·       Neutral facial expression, mouth closed, and look straight at the camera

·       No accessories such as sunglasses, tinted eyeglasses, hats, or head coverings (unless for religious or medical reasons)

·       Clear and sharp image in full color

·       Even lighting, with no reflections on glasses or shadow on skin

·       Centered composition, with head properly framed and not tilted to the side

·       The photo must be free from digital alterations

⚠️ Photos not meeting these requirements will be rejected, causing delays in Student ID card issuance.

 

The following types of photos will not be accepted:

Only color photos accepted

Blurry, Pixelated, or Faded

Out-of-focus or low-quality images

Head Not Centered

Face not aligned in the middle of the photo

Visible Shadows

Shadows on face or behind head

During online submission (via MyHKMU or HKMU Mobile App), you must read and confirm the following declarations:

 

  • The University reserves the right to reject any photo not meeting requirements.
  • Resubmission may be required if your uploaded photo is invalid or of poor quality.
  • Failure to provide a valid photo may delay the issuance of your Student Identity Card.
  • Keep your email and contact details updated to receive resubmission notifications.

Collection of Student Cards

You will be notified by email when your Student ID Card is ready for collection. Please note that the processing time of Student ID Card is normally 10-15 working days after receiving your photo.

If we do not receive your photo or your submitted photo does not meet the requirements, the University will not be able to issue your Student ID Card.
