This guide outlines how to install and use the Saladict Chrome extension for pop-up translation, PDF word lookup, and full-page translation.
Install Saladict Chrome Extension
| a. | Navigate to the website: https://saladict.crimx.com/; |
| b. | Click 下載安裝 (Install), then select Chrome 商店 (Chrome webstore); |
| c. | Click Add to Chrome and then Add extension to install the extension; |
| d. | Click the puzzle piece icon in the top-right corner of your browser after installation; |
| e. | Find Saladict in the list and click the pin icon to keep it visible on the toolbar. |
Use Pop-Up Dictionary
| a. | Click the Saladict icon in the toolbar and toggle on Enable Inline Translator; |
| b. | Right-click the Saladict icon in the toolbar and select Options; |
| c. | Select the Dictionaries tab from the left-side menu to add, remove, or reorder the dictionaries; |
| d. | Click on a dictionary to access the dictionary website; |
| e. | Select a word or phrase on a webpage, and click the Saladict logo to open the inline translation panel; |
| f. | View definitions from multiple dictionaries simultaneously within the panel; |
| g. | Click the heart icon in the panel's green taskbar to save a word to your vocabulary notebook (Note: You can edit the Context saved along with the word); |
| h. | Click the pin icon to keep the panel on screen while you continue browsing. |
Translate Words in a PDF
| a. | Right-click the Saladict icon in the toolbar and select Options; |
| b. | Select the PDF tab from the left-side menu; |
| c. | Toggle on Enable PDF Sniffer and click Save; |
| d. | Open an online PDF file in the Chrome browser; |
| e. | Right-click on the webpage and select Saladict > Open in PDF Viewer in the context menu (Note: Saladict uses its own built-in PDF viewer to enable translation); |
| f. | Select text within the PDF to look up words and phrases. |
Translate Entire Webpage
| a. | Right-click anywhere on a webpage; |
| b. | Select Saladict > Google Page Translate in the context menu (Note: The services available in this menu can be customised in the extension's Options under Context Menus); |
| c. | Select a target language from the top menu to translate the entire page. |
