HKMU has been granted subsidised places across 21 programmes for the 2026\/27 academic year under the latest round of the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions\/Sectors (SSSDP) for undergraduate programmes, including 10 Applied Degree programmes, such as the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Diagnostic Radiography.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has been granted 1,891 subsidised places across 21 programmes for the 2026\/27 academic year under the latest round of the Education Bureau (EDB)’s Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions\/Sectors (SSSDP) for undergraduate programmes. This includes 1,177 places for 10 Applied Degree (APD) programmes. HKMU continued to secure the highest number of funded programmes and places among the eight participating self-financing institutions.<\/p>

Compared to the 2025\/26 academic year, the number of funded places for designated first-year, first-degree programmes will increase by 40, bringing the total to 1,365 places for the 2026\/27 academic year.<\/p>

HKMU President\u00a0Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing<\/strong>\u00a0expressed his gratitude to the Government for its continued support for self-financing post-secondary education. \u201cAs a university of applied sciences, HKMU is dedicated to fostering industry-ready professionals,\u201d he said. \u201cHaving our 10 Applied Degree programmes included under the SSSDP reaffirms the University’s efforts to cultivate professional talent for society. HKMU will continue to enhance the quality of teaching and research and promote interdisciplinary collaboration to equip students with the latest knowledge and skills. This will enable them to excel in a rapidly evolving workplace, pursue successful careers and contribute meaningfully to society.\u201d<\/p>

Under the SSSDP, the annual subsidy for laboratory-based programmes in the 2026\/27 academic year is set at $81,450, while non-laboratory-based programmes will receive $46,780.<\/p>

According to the Guidelines on Developing Applied Degree Programmes, the 10 programmes at HKMU accredited as APD programmes (see the\u00a0Annex<\/u>\u00a0for the full list) are eligible for additional applied degree subsidies. Together with the SSSDP subsidy, the total annual subsidy amounts will be $89,620 for laboratory-based programme and $51,880 for non-laboratory-based programmes.<\/p>

Among these programmes, the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Diagnostic Radiography, a new programme to be launched in the 2026\/27 academic year, will be funded under both the SSSDP and the applied degree subsidies. This programme aims to nurture diagnostic radiographers and help alleviate the shortage of medical professionals in both the public and private sectors in Hong Kong.<\/p>
