OUHK receives $10 million donation from The Kadoorie Charitable Foundation to support new campus development 20/4/2018

Director of the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation Mr Christopher Lavender presented a cheque of HK$10 million to the OUHK President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong. The Open University of Hong Kong was grateful for the generous gift from the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation to support the development of its new Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare.	The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) received a gift of HK$10 million from the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation (Kadoorie) to support the development of its new Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare. At a cheque presentation held today (20 April), President of the OUHK Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong expressed his deepest gratitude to Kadoorie for its generous donation in supporting the University’s new campus development project to train up the much-needed healthcare professionals for the society. He noted that Kadoorie has been an enthusiastic supporter in education and has made numerous contributions to fund local and overseas academic projects and community initiatives in the areas of healthcare, nature conservations and environment. This is among one of the most significant contributions from the community, and the University is grateful for not only the gift, but the trust and endorsement of its efforts through these generous donations. A representative of the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation said the Kadoorie Family were delighted to support the OUHK in addressing healthcare needs in Hong Kong. In the face of challenges brought by an aging population and the growing pressure on healthcare services, the OUHK has embarked on an $850-milllion new campus development project on Sheung Shing Street, Ho Man Tin in 2017. The new campus, the OUHK Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare, will be home to a suite of healthcare programmes that aims to nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals. It is expected that about 2,800 students will be benefited from the new learning facility every year upon its completion in 2020. The OUHK Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare features state-of-the-art design which seeks to strike a balance between the needs of teaching and the need for a vibrant campus life. Apart from the well-equipped professional laboratories, students can enjoy active learning and exchanges in innovative settings. Key facilities include Nursing Laboratories, Allied Health Laboratories, Psychology Laboratory, Special Education Needs Centre, Academic Concourse, Classrooms and Learning Commons.
