OUHK receives generous donation from Alumna Katie Shu Sui Pui   12/2/2018

OUHK Honorary Fellow and Alumna Miss Katie Shu Sui Pui has generously made another donation of HK$1 million in support of the new OUHK Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare. In recognition of her long-standing and significant contributions over the years, a tutorial room at the University was named “Katie Shu Sui Pui Charitable Trust Hall”.

Miss Katie Shu is an ardent patron of the OUHK. Since 2005, she has been supporting the University in various ways ranging from campus development, student financial assistance and support, as well as research and publication. Her recent donation of HK$1 million was made in response to the University's appeal to fundraise for its new campus development project on Sheung Shing Street. The new Institute will be home to a suite of academic programmes that aims to nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals to address community needs.

President of the OUHK Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong highly commended Miss Katie Shu for her generosity and staunch support which has helped propel the University forward in terms of the quality of education and creating a better learning environment for students. He remarked that Miss Shu’s contributions over the years have affirmed and endorsed the University’s commitment and efforts in achieving excellence.

Miss Katie Shu received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Language and Translation from the OUHK in 2006. Throughout the years, Miss Shu has donated to the OUHK repeatedly and established a number of funds to benefit both students and staff. In 2013, she established the "Regal Fortune Limited – Katie Shu Sui Pui Bursary for Working Fathers" to help working fathers with financial difficulty to obtain university education. In 2015, she set up the "Katie Shu Sui Pui Charitable Trust – Research and Publication Fund (Applied Research)" to support applied research and encourage quality research publications. In 2016, she made a gift of HK$1 million to launch the "We can Fly" programme to promote creativity and innovation through sponsoring full-time students to take part in local and overseas academic competitions and conferences.

Located on the eighth floor of the OUHK's Jockey Club Campus, the "Katie Shu Sui Pui Charitable Trust Hall" has a total floor area of around 204 square meters, and can accommodate a maximum of 150 students. It can be partitioned into three smaller classrooms as needed. In addition to providing a spacious environment for teaching and learning, the facility is also an excellent venue for organizing student activities, conferences, staff training sessions and seminars.
