The students and staff of Hong Kong Metropolitan University Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKMU LiPACE) extend their heartfelt condolences to all victims and affected families of the recent tragic fire. The School has always prioritized the mental wellbeing of its students and staff. To help the community find comfort and connection in this time of grief, The School hosts a meaningful intercultural gathering on December 10, 2025 in collaboration with The Ukrainian Society of Hong Kong.<\/p>

The event aims to convey messages of charity, compassion, and hope, providing a space for emotional support and cultural exchange among participants from diverse backgrounds. In recent years, Ukraine has moved its official Orthodox Christmas celebration from 7 January to 25 December, with a core emphasis on family reunion and sharing. For example, Ukrainian families traditionally welcome their loved ones with a didukh (a decorative sheaf of wheat) that symbolizes the spirits of their ancestors, reflecting Christmas blessings from their grandparents. Participants share their traditional customs and express their emotions through singing uplifting songs like \u201cA Flower Soul\u201d and \u201cSilent Night, Holy Night\u201d, encouraging and supporting one another.<\/p>

\u00a0All of the attending students and staff observe a one-minute silence for the victims of the Tai Po Fire. Dr. Benjamin Chan, Dean of HKMU LiPACE, read Howard Thurman’s poem \u201cI Will Light Candles This Christmas\u201d and expressed, \u201cI am very grateful to the Hong Kong Ukrainian community , as well as to the students, our part-time teachers and staff of LiPACE for attending today’s event. In the past year, everyone’s efforts and contributions have helped us navigate through every up and down. I hope this special gathering today can bring love, compassion, and hope to all, alleviating the recent depressed emotions. As Howard Thurman's poem 'I Will Light Candles This Christmas' says, Christmas can replace sadness, despair, and fear with hope and courage.\u201d<\/p>

Following successful cultural events featuring Christmas traditions from the UK, the Philippines, Russia, Finland, Latin America, and Hungary, HKMU LiPACE is partnering with the Ukrainian community in Hong Kong to present the Christmas customs and traditions of the Orthodox Church. This collaboration provides students with the opportunities to experience Ukrainian cultural elements, including Vybiyka (fabric decoration) workshop, Zirka (Christmas Star) workshop, Vyshyvanka (traditional embroidered garments) display and traditional food-tasting.<\/p>

LiPACE's “Three-I Initiatives” promotes \u201cInternationalization in Place\u201d, “Intercultural Awareness”, and “Inclusiveness” on campus. This event not only brings together local students but also attracts ethnic minority students, international exchange students from the Italian Fondazione Jobs Academy (JAC), and students from Chinese Mainland.<\/p>

\u9999\u6e2f\u90fd\u6703\u5927\u5b78\u674e\u5609\u8aa0\u5c08\u696d\u9032\u4fee\u5b78\u9662\uff08HKMU LiPACE\uff09\u5e2b\u751f\u5c31\u8fd1\u65e5\u767c\u751f\u7684\u706b\u707d\u6158\u5287\uff0c\u5411\u6240\u6709\u7f79\u96e3\u8005\u53ca\u53d7\u5f71\u97ff\u5bb6\u5ead\u81f4\u4ee5\u6700\u6df1\u5207\u6170\u554f\u3002\u5b78\u9662\u4e00\u76f4\u91cd\u8996\u5e2b\u751f\u7cbe\u795e\u5065\u5eb7\uff0c\u70ba\u5e6b\u52a9\u793e\u7fa4\u5728\u60b2\u75db\u4e2d\u5c0b\u627e\u6170\u85c9\u8207\u9023\u7d50\uff0c\u65bc2025\u5e74 12\u670810\u65e5 \u8207 The Ukrainian Society of Hong Kong\uff08\u9999\u6e2f\u70cf\u514b\u862d\u793e\u7fa4\uff09 \u651c\u624b\u8209\u8fa6\u4e00\u5834\u5225\u5177\u610f\u7fa9\u7684\u8de8\u6587\u5316\u805a\u6703\u3002<\/p>

\u6d3b\u52d5\u65e8\u5728\u50b3\u905e\u6148\u611b\u3001\u5718\u7d50\u8207\u5e0c\u671b\u7684\u4fe1\u606f\uff0c\u70ba\u4e0d\u540c\u80cc\u666f\u7684\u5e2b\u751f\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e00\u500b\u60c5\u611f\u652f\u6301\u8207\u6587\u5316\u4ea4\u6d41\u7684\u7a7a\u9593\u3002\u70cf\u514b\u862d\u8fd1\u5e74\u5c07\u5b98\u65b9\u8056\u8a95\u7bc0\u5f9e\u4ee5\u5f80\u76841\u67087\u65e5\u6539\u70ba 12\u670825\u65e5\uff0c\u5176\u7cbe\u795e\u6838\u5fc3\u6b63\u662f\u5bb6\u5ead\u5718\u805a\u3001\u5f7c\u6b64\u5206\u4eab\u3002\u4f8b\u5982\uff0c\u50b3\u7d71\u4e0a\u6703\u4ee5\u8c61\u5fb5\u7956\u5148\u9748\u9b42\u7684 didukh\uff08\u9ea5\u7a08\u88dd\u98fe\uff09 \u8fce\u63a5\u5bb6\u4eba\u5718\u5713\uff0c\u76f8\u4fe1\u8056\u8a95\u6642\u5206\u7956\u8f29\u6703\u70ba\u5bb6\u65cf\u6210\u54e1\u5e36\u4f86\u795d\u798f\u3002\u53c3\u8207\u8005\u4e92\u76f8\u5206\u4eab\u5404\u81ea\u6587\u5316\u7fd2\u4fd7\uff0c\u70cf\u514b\u862d\u793e\u7fa4\u4e26\u900f\u904e\u73fe\u5834\u6f14\u594f\u300aA flower Soul\u300b\u53ca\u300aSilent Night, Holy Night\u300b\u7b49\u6b4c\u66f2\uff0c\u5171\u540c\u6292\u767c\u60c5\u611f\uff0c\u5f7c\u6b64\u52c9\u52f5\u3002<\/p>
