Library Using the Library Spaces for Different Needs ALS-test-v2

The Active Learning Space (ALS) on Level 1 of the Stanley Ho Library is open to all library users. The ALS is equipped with group tables and chairs, wireless LAN, LED monitors, interactive whiteboard, visualizer and a central control system for screen displays. It has been designed to provide a space that facilitates group presentation and collaborative studies for 44 users.

The ALS is also available for reservation by HKMU staff for classes or for other teaching functions. HKMU staff could complete a booking form or contact the Circulation Section of the Library for details. When not reserved, the space is open to all library users who can also bring their personal computers to connect to the LED displays for group work, study or quiet discussion.

When showing films or TV programmes in the Group Study Rooms, users should follow the Guidelines for showing films and TV programmes on campus.

Condition of the Use of Active Learning Space
  1. The Active Learning Space (ALS) may be reserved by HKMU Staff for classes or other teaching functions.
  2. Except when reserved, the ALS is open to all Library users on a first-come-first-served basis during the Library opening hours. The available hours is posted inside the ALS.
  1. Keep the Room clean and tidy.
  2. Not smoke, eat, drink, speak loudly, play games of any form, use mobile phone or any beeping devices.
  3. Not display inappropriate material(s) or cause(s) disturbance to other users.
  4. Not reserve tables or seating places by any means.
  5. Not relocate any furniture, except for the classes or teaching activities.
  6. Be responsible for your own property.
  7. Be responsible for any replacement / repair cost for improper use of the facilities or equipment inside the ALS.
  8. Follow the Library regulations and follow the Library staff’s instruction on the use of the facilities and leave the ALS when required.
How to Book Active Learning Space

HKMU full-time staff

  1. The ALS should be used for classes or teaching functions to practice and promote active teaching and learning. The room capacity is 44.
  2. Submission of block bookings well before the term / course starts is highly encouraged.
  3. Subject to availability, booking should normally be made at least 1 week in advance and will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis. Please contact Ms. Chan at 2768-6785 or the Service Counter at 2768-6778 to check availability of the ALS before submitting the booking form.
  4. The booking is not transferrable.

Requests for cancellation or amendment should be sent to the Library at least 1 day in advance. Late cancellations or amendments will not be considered since advance notice is necessary to schedule the use of the ALS.

  1. The person in charge is held responsible for the security of the room and its contents during the booking duration.
  2. The person in charge is responsible for the proper use of the furniture and equipment in the room. The room should be returned as it is before use.
  3. If no one is present at the class within 30 minutes of the commencement time, it will be assumed that the class has been cancelled and the rental fee is unrefundable. The ALS will be open to all Library users when it is not booked for functions or when a booking has been cancelled.
  4. All library regulations apply to the Active Learning Space.
