Library Physical Octopus Cards Lending Service

Users who do not possess a physical Octopus Card can temporarily access photocopying and printing services through our Physical Octopus Card Lending Service.

Borrowing the Card

  • Approach the Service Counter in person at either the Stanley Ho Library or the Ho Sik Yee Library.
  • Library staff will:
    • Verify the balance of the Octopus card and confirm the balance with you.
    • Lend the Octopus Card to you for temporary use within the Library.
    • Record your user ID number on the log sheet.
  • You must sign the log sheet to acknowledge receipt of the Octopus Card and agree with the recorded balance.

Returning the Card

  • Returns the Octopus card to the Service Counter of the Library from which you borrowed the Card.
  • Library staff will check the remaining balance with you to determine the amount you need to pay back to the Library.
  • Make payment via e-payment methods (Octopus Card on mobile phone, Visa / MasterCard (aforesaid cards via Apple Pay / Google Pay accepted) at the Service Counter.

Terms and Conditions

  1. The Physical Octopus Cards (Card) Lending Service is only available for current staff and active HKMU students or LiPACE students taking eligible programmes and they must have normal borrowing privileges.
  2. Borrowers can check out the Card at the Service Counter of the Stanley Ho Library on the Main Campus or the Ho Sik Yee Library on the Jockey Club Campus in person with valid HKMU staff/student card.
  3. The Card must not be taken away from the Library.
  4. The service is on a first-come-first-served basis. Advance booking and renewal are not available.
  5. The Library reserves the right to refuse the loan request if “misuse” is found, or, for some other undetermined reason(s).
  6. Borrowers are required to return the Card to the Service Counter of the Library from which they borrowed in person on or before the due date/time. Card overdue for 1 day will be assumed lost, the borrower will be responsible for replacement cost and his/her borrowing privileges for all library materials will be suspended.
  7. Borrowers will be responsible for loss and damage of the Card. For any malfunction, damage or loss of the Card, borrowers may be required to pay the full value plus the physical Octopus Card deposit for any replacements. Lost or damaged Card will continue to be the property of the University even if the replacement charge has been paid.
