Updates on Campus Access Control Measures (Circular 73)  19/08/2022

Dear Colleagues,

Following the Government's announcement of the addition of the Red Code and Amber Code into the Vaccine Pass to differentiate persons with higher risk of infection (i.e. confirmed cases and inbound persons from overseas places or Taiwan), the University has updated the campus access control arrangements with immediate effect as follows:-

A. Persons under the category of Red Code

All persons under the category of Red Code, including staff, students, alumni, visitors and contractors, are not allowed to enter the Campus.

B. Persons under the category of Amber Code

1. Staff and Students

Staff and students under the category of Amber Code are allowed to enter the Campus but cannot visit the catering facilities and gymnasium nor take part in mask-off extra-curricular activities. To reduce risk of transmission, they are required to take the daily rapid antigen tests (RAT) using self-testing kit and get negative result on the day before they enter the Campus. They should also keep record by taking photo of the testing result.

2. Alumni, Visitors and Contractors

Alumni, visitors and contractors under the category of Amber Code are not allowed to enter the Campus.

C. Points to note

1. Staff with Amber Code shall report to HRO about the Amber Code status.

2. Staff with Amber Code are required to go to work on Campus unless they have obtained the respective Deans’ / Directors’ special approval of working from home.

3. Visitors with Amber Code are not allowed to enter the Campus. Schools / Offices should check / remind the visitors when issuing the QR codes via Visitors Management System.

4. Staff with Amber Code are required to have the lunch in the following designated locations instead of in the work desks of their offices unless they have an individual office:-

The University will continue to monitor the pandemic situation closely and make any necessary adjustments to the policy as and when required. Announcement on Update of Teaching and Learning Arrangements for 2021 Autumn Term (Circular 46)  10/08/2021

Dear Students,

The 2021/22 Autumn term will commence on Monday 20th September 2021 and I would like to give you an update on the University’s teaching and learning arrangements.

As outlined in the previous announcement, it is the University’s intention to resume face-to-face teaching in the 2021 Autumn term. While online learning has proven to be successful over the past year as an alternative teaching arrangement, campus life is an integral part of a university journey and is essential for students to gain a holistic university experience.

As we resume our normal teaching and learning arrangements, the University will continue to monitor the situation and make every effort to ensure the safety of our returning students in the new academic year.

Arrangements for Lectures, Tutorials, Laboratory & Practicums and End-of-term Examinations

Lectures will be delivered in face-to-face mode. Recordings of the lectures will be made available online.*

Tutorials will basically be face-to-face but can take other forms such as online or hybrid (i.e. face-to-face and online real-time simultaneously) based on the pedagogical needs of respective courses. Online option in the form of recorded tutorials* or real-time online sessions will only be provided for students who cannot come on campus for legitimate reasons, such as travel restrictions imposed by the Hong Kong/local Government.  Students who cannot come on campus due to legitimate reasons should make a request to the School concerned for arrangement of online tutorial option.  Final arrangements of tutorials will be announced prior to term start.

Laboratory sessions and practicums will be delivered face-to-face. Detailed arrangements will be made by individual Schools and information will be sent to the students concerned separately.

End-of-term Examinations will take the form of on-campus invigilated examinations.  All students are required to come on campus to write the examinations.

Coming to Hong Kong

Non-local students who will be coming to Hong Kong for classes should pay attention to the quarantine requirements imposed by the Hong Kong SAR Government and make travel plans accordingly. There are also useful information put together by our Student Affairs Office (SAO) on this website for easy reference. For students from the Mainland, please note that taking your study in Hong Kong is the usual requirement of the Ministry of Education (MoE) for recognition of academic qualification obtained in Hong Kong.  While the MoE has relaxed this requirement under the pandemic, it is uncertain whether this measure will continue.  Thus, although online options are available, if you cannot come to Hong Kong for classes, you may run the risk of your award not being recognised by the MoE.

Be Safe and Get Vaccinated

For the health and safety of the University community, we strongly encourage all of you to get vaccinated before the start of the new academic year. As an encouragement, the University has launched a lucky draw programme for all full-time and part-time staff and students who have had two doses of COVID-19 vaccination. Details can be found here.  Please note that all staff, students and visitors are required to scan “LeaveHomeSafe” QR code before entering the campus for necessary contact tracing if a confirmed COVID case is found.

* If you plan to apply for CEF reimbursement for face-to-face courses, physical attendance in class is necessary for the University to certify your attendance in support of your CEF application. (Not applicable to distance learning courses)
