The “Cantonese Opera Family Day” co-organized by the Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre, HKMU and Ms Kang Wei-fun, the director of Yue'en Opera Society, successfully concluded on August 10 (Saturday). Both grown-ups and children gathered at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare Campus to experience the joy of Cantonese opera.<\/p>

Ms Kang and the students of Yue'en Opera Society carefully guided the participants in rehearsing the new Cantonese opera “Visitor from Outer Space”. The young actors dressed in costumes and tasted the flavor of singing, reciting, and performing. After the performance, both adults and children enthusiastically shared their feelings, and they especially thanked HKMU and Ms Kang for planning this event to promote Cantonese opera education.<\/p>

Ms Kang also hosted a seminar after the performance on the “System of Cantonese Opera”, explaining the basic knowledge of Cantonese opera to parents and children.<\/p>

Dr Kelly Chan, the director of the center, thanked the participants for their support and hoped to plan more different types of activities to promote Cantonese opera in the future.
