Over the years, Mao has been most successful in combining East\/West cross-cultural elements in his stage productions. Over the past decade, Prof Mao has ventured into the creation and direction of traditional Chinese opera. For instance, the combination of Cantonese opera and musical theatre <em>The Liaisons \u00a0<\/em>(\u300c\u60c5\u8a71\u7d2b\u91f5\u300d) in Hong Kong Arts Festival 2010; the remake and adaptation of Cantonese Opera <em>The Last Emperor of Southern Tang <\/em>(New version) (\u300c\u674e\u5f8c\u4e3b\u300d\u65b0\u7e79\u672c ) in Chinese Opera Festival 2011;\u00a0 the innovative Cantonese opera production <em>Pavilion of a Hundred Flowers<\/em> (\u300c\u767e\u82b1\u4ead\u8d08\u528d\u300d) in Hong Kong Arts Festival 2018; and the classical Cantonese Opera remake <em>I Am Waiting for you, Love<\/em> (\u300c\u5e73\u8cb4\uff0c\u6211\u5728\u7b49\u4f60\u300d)<\/p><p>In this seminar, Prof Mao will discuss &#8220;The Fusion of Tradition and Fashion&#8221;, sharing his experience of applying modern theatre techniques to the creative process of Cantonese opera, thereby enriching its creativity and revitalizing this traditional local art form.
