Cantonese opera, a traditional art form that embodies the legacy of Lingnan culture, is the treasured intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong. On stage, artists perform with devotion, while their exquisite and magnificent costumes enhance the radiance and splendour of the performance. These costumes are more than stage adornments, but masterpieces of traditional craftsmanship. Each costume is carefully matched to the character's identity, serving as a marker of role and status.<\/p>

The HKMU Ina Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre, in collaboration with the University Library and the Tin Ka Ping Centre of Chinese Culture, proudly presents its first thematic exhibition, \u201cResplendent Attire and Graceful Demeanor: The Cantonese Opera Costume Exhibition<\/strong>“. The exhibition showcases a wide array of Cantonese opera costumes across different role types, some of which were worn by renowned performers and have been preserved for decades, bearing immense historical value. Exhibits include costumes worn by Dr. Fong Yim-fun (loaned by the Fong Yim Fun Art Sustainability Project, Shaw College, CUHK), Dr. Lam Kar-sing (loaned by Ms. Yum Dan-fung, pupil of Dr. Lam Kar-sing), Ms. Chan Ho-kau (loaned by the family of Ms. Chan Ho-kau), Ms. Leung Siu-sum (loaned by Ms. Lois Ng), Mr. Loong Koon-tin (loaned by Mr. Loong Koon-tin), as well as those from the Hong Kong Cantonese Opera Troupe's 2024 production of The Butterfly and the Red Pear Blossoms<\/em>. Together, these pieces embody both tradition and renewal, radiating the enduring splendour of Cantonese opera.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
