Public Opinion on Food Waste and Food Rescue Survey 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/h3><\/h5>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In collaboration with Food Angel, the\nrenowned NGO specializing in food rescue and food assistance, the research team\nof the Public and Social Policy Research Centre at A&SS has conducted a\nquestionnaire survey on Food Waste and Food Rescue between mid-May and mid-June\n2025. More than 800 respondents had provided their valuable opinions by\ncompleting the online questionnaires of the survey. The findings showed that\nmajority of the respondents (81.6%) agreed that food donation is an effective\nway of environmental protection. However, only 34.0% of them had ever donated\nfood to any food rescue organizations. The major impediment to their\nparticipation in food donation is \u201clack of convenient collection points\u201d\n(58.1%). Moreover, 49.2% respondents indicated their awareness that commercial\norganizations had involved in food rescue projects. Majority of this group of\nrespondents (84.6%) agreed that the involvement of commercial organizations in\nfood rescue activities would boost up their own motivation of food donation.\nBased on these findings, it is suggested that the provision of more collection\npoints could enhance the willingness of citizen to donate their surplus food,\nand the involvement of commercial organization in food rescue activities could\nmotivate more citizens to participate in food donation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Dr Chan Wai Leung, the\nprincipal investigator of the research project, shared the survey above survey\nfindings in the “City Food Drive 2025 Kick-off Ceremony” on 2 July 2025. This is\nthe opening ceremony of the food donation campaign jointly organized by Food\nAngel and ParkNShop.<\/span><\/p>\n
