With the generous donation of Dr Ina Ho Chan Un-chan, \u201cIna Ho Cantonese Opera Research Centre (The Centre)\u201d of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) was officially established in August 2023, focusing on research, promotion, dissemination, as well as propagation of Cantonese opera.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

  • Adhering to the vision of the 14th<\/sup> Five-Year Plan to promote Hong Kong as an \u201cEast-meets-West Centre for International Cultural Exchange\u201d;<\/li>
  • Promoting traditional Chinese culture and the art of Cantonese opera;<\/li>
  • Planning in the long run for the development of Cantonese opera at Hong Kong Metropolitan University and disseminating its deliverables to overseas audiences;<\/li>

    Objectives and Visions <\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    With the unique characteristics of development, \u201ctranslating Cantonese opera libretti into English and promoting the English versions abroad\u201d and establishing anonline course in the Appreciation of Cantonese Opera Culture, the Centre has the following objectives and aspirations:<\/p>

    • To have a close collaboration with the \u201cHong Kong Cantonese Opera Troupe\u201d in organizing a variety of Cantonese opera promotions and culture-related activities both local and overseas;<\/li>
    • To promote Cantonese opera overseas through English translation;<\/li>
    • To strengthen and enhance academic research on subjects related to Cantonese opera;<\/li>
    • To educate the public on a multimedia platform through the organization of online courses on operatic culture;<\/li>
