Biography

Dr. Vincent Cheng received his PhD in Sociology and Criminology from the University of Hong Kong. He has taught in a number of universities in Hong Kong including the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Community College of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University before working in the School of Arts and Social Sciences in the Hong Kong Metropolitan University as an assistant professor. He is interested in crime and punishment in China in general, with a particular focus on drug rehabilitation, imprisonment, and post-release reintegration in both Mainland China and Hong Kong. His current research is about older people who use drugs in Hong Kong. He has published in international journals like Punishment and SocietyInternational Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, and Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy. His book, Hypocrisy: The Tales and Realities of Drug Detainees in China receives honorary mention in the 2020 ACS Distinguished Book Award of Asian Criminology Society. He has been appointed as Centre Fellow by the Centre for Criminology The University of Hong Kong (https://crime.hku.hk/single-php/centre-fellows/).
