Biography

Dr Sharon Chan is currently a lecturer of the Department of Social Sciences and is a new member of the teaching team for the Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Ageing Society and Services Studies Programme. She has garnered more than 10 years of teaching experience in both undergraduate and taught master programmes from local universities and has been actively involved in service-learning programmes within higher education settings.

Inspired by the loss of her best friend, Dr Chan became aware of the importance of knowledge related to death and dying, and it is from this personal experience that she developed her primary research interest in Chinese funeral rituals and practices. Having designed and participated in activities related to death education and end-of-life community care in the past few years, Dr Chan extends her ongoing research interest in life-and-death education and various facets of death, loss, and bereavement.
