AI Tools for Teaching Staff

HKMU is committed to harnessing AI to enhance teaching and learning. We are developing and integrating proprietary AI tools into our internal systems, empowering staff and students with more personalised, efficient, and effective educational experiences. Below are key initiatives and tools under development or in use:

A central platform for staff to discover and access university-licensed AI tools. The Hub automates license management and ensures secure integration with external tools. Currently, Perplexity and Leonardo.AI are available for teaching staff via the Hub.

Uses AI to grade assignments, suggest scores, and provide feedback. The tool can flag missing or irrelevant answers, helping staff identify issues early and reduce marking workload.

The ePortfolio system is being upgraded with AI features to streamline portfolio creation and viewing: • AI Authoring Tool: Grammar and expression suggestions • AI UI Design Tool: Visual design recommendations • AI Chatbot: Profile summaries and Q&A • AI Image Generator: Visual content creation

Combines multiple detection tools to assess the likelihood that student work was generated by AI. Results are displayed within the OLE, supporting academic integrity and efficient evaluation.

A self-hosted, AI-powered platform for generating customised teaching materials—lesson plans, quizzes, and multimedia resources—tailored to individual student needs. Integrated with OLE, it provides usage analytics and student performance data, enabling targeted interventions and dynamic teaching adjustments. The platform also curates educational resources, saving time and supporting best practices.

Automatically generates a variety of exercises and learning activities—such as multiple-choice, short-answer, and open-ended questions—directly from course materials. Content is aligned with learning outcomes and can be reviewed and customised by educators before use. Seamless integration with the Online Quiz on OLE allows quick quiz setup, saving time and increasing practice opportunities for students.

Creates structured banks of assessment questions and marking rubrics from course content. Supports multiple question formats and ensures consistency and transparency in grading. Educators can review and tailor the generated material, reducing manual workload and supporting high-quality assessment design.
