Regulations for the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce, Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours


1. General
1.1 These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees.
1.2 In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
   
2. Entry Requirements
2.1 To enter the Bachelor of Electronic Commerce programme through pathway 1 or the Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours programme through pathway 1, a student shall normally possess a recognized Associate Degree or Higher Diploma in a business/computing studies-related area (or its equivalent).
   
3. Bachelor of Electronic Commerce (BEC) (see Note 15)
3.1 To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce, a student shall:
  3.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  3.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
  3.1.3 obtain at least 120 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
  3.1.4 obtain at least 115 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the degree for which notice has been given, including at least 20 credits in courses at Higher level.
3.2 For the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  3.2.1 successfully complete 30 credits from courses labelled FD in Table 1; and
  3.2.2 successfully complete 25 credits from the compulsory business courses (labelled BC in Table 1); and
  3.2.3 successfully complete 30 credits from the elective computing courses (labelled CC in Table 1); and
  3.2.4 successfully complete 30 credits from the compulsory IS and EC courses (labelled IE in Table 1); and
  3.2.5 successfully complete additional courses, as necessary, from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University (other than GEN S100F), provded that, of the total 120 credits, no more than 40 are gained at Foundation level.
   
4. Bachelor of Electronic Commerce (through Pathway 1) (BEC1) (see Note 15)
4.1 To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce, a student who entered the programme through pathway 1 shall:
  4.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  4.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
  4.1.3 obtain at least 40 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the degree for which notice has been given.
4.2 For the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce, the University has prescribed that a student who entered the programme through pathway 1 must:
  4.2.1 successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled BC and/or CC in Table 1; and
  4.2.2 successfully complete 30 credits from courses labelled IE in Table 1.
   
5. Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours (BECH) (see Note 15)
5.1 To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours, a student shall:
  5.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  5.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
  5.1.3 obtain at least 160 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
  5.1.4 obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Higher level; and
  5.1.5 successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
5.2 For the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  5.2.1 successfully complete 30 credits from courses labelled FD in Table 1; and
  5.2.2 successfully complete 25 credits from the compulsory business courses (labelled BC in Table 1); and
  5.2.3 successfully complete 30 credits from the elective computing courses (labelled CC in Table 1); and
  5.2.4 successfully complete 40 credits from the compulsory IS and EC courses (labelled IE and IH in Table 1); and
  5.2.5 successfully complete 30 credits from the elective IS and EC courses (labelled ED in Table 1); and
  5.2.6 successfully complete additional courses, as necessary, from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University (other than GEN S100F), provided that, of the total 160 credits, no more than 40 are gained at Foundation level.
   
6. Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours (through Pathway 1) (BECH1) (see Note 15)
6.1 To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours, a student who entered the programme through pathway 1 shall:
  6.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  6.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
  6.1.3 obtain at least 80 credits of which at least 40 credits shall be obtained in courses at Higher level; and
  6.1.4 successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
6.2 For the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours, the University has prescribed that a student who entered the programme through pathway 1 must:
  6.2.1 successfully complete 10 credits from courses (labelled BC and/or CC in Table 1); and
  6.2.2 successfully complete 40 credits from courses (labelled IE and IH in Table 1); and
  6.2.3 successfully complete 30 credits from courses (labelled ED Table 1).
   

7.

Each degree with Honours shall be conferred with a classification of First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division) or Third Class save that exceptionally a degree may be conferred without classification.
8. Subject to the requirements of the relevant programme of study, each person on whom an Honours degree is to be conferred shall be assigned to a classification determined by the University according to its regulations.
9. For the calculation of scores for honours classification purposes in the degree of Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours, the University has deemed that “Group (a)” shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher Level. “Group (b)” shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher or Middle Level, where such credits are not taken into account in “Group (a)”. Further, that “X” shall equal two, that is “Group (a)” shall be weighted at twice the value of “Group (b)”.

Notes:

  1. Courses form excluded combinations with other courses. Only one of the courses of the excluded combinations can count towards an OUHK award. Students should refer to the list of excluded combinations for details.
     
  2. BIS B220 has been replaced by BIS B121. If students have successfully completed BIS B220, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BIS B121. BIS B121 has been replaced by BIS B123. If students have successfully completed BIS B121, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BIS B123.

  5. Students who have completed MATH S101 or MATH S111 are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for MATH S121.
     
  6. Students who have completed ACT B303 or FIN B382 or FIN B400 are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for FIN B280.
     
  7. Students who have completed ELEC S312 are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for ELEC S332.
     
  8. If students have successfully completed ACT B211 and ACT B212, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for ACT B210.
     
  9. If students have successfully completed BUS B100, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BUS B103.
     
  10. If students have successfully completed ACT B367X/ACT B367, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for FIN B280, ACT B313, FIN B386 and ACT B405.
     
  11. BIS B318 has been replaced by BIS B316 and BIS B317. If students have successfully completed BIS B318, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BIS B316 and BIS B317.
     
  12. The course code of MKT B371 has been revised as SCM B371.  If students have successfully completed MKT B371, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for SCM B371.
     
  13. The course code of MKT B470 has been revised as SCM B470.  If students have successfully completed MKT B470, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for SCM B470.
     
  14. Courses presented in full time face-to-face mode are identical to courses with the same course code but without the suffix “F”. Students who have successfully completed courses presented in full time face-to-face mode are not allowed to take the same courses in the distance learning mode, and vice versa.
     
  15. The Bachelor of Electronic Commerce with Honours programme has been phased out with effect from October 2014 semester and its last conferment will be December 2019. For the Bachelor of Electronic Commerce programme, it has been phased out with effect from 2018 Spring term and its last conferment will be December 2023.
