Aims

This course explores how psychology offers insights into human behaviours and mental processes. This course aims to guide students to master the major concepts, theories and research of psychology and apply them to daily lives where appropriate.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction: Basic concepts and research methods in psychology
  • Biological perspectives in psychology: The brain and senses
  • Learning
  • Memory
  • Lifespan development
  • Emotion
  • Personality
  • Social psychology
  • Stress and coping
  • Psychological disorders

Learning support

There will be ten tutorials and two day schools.

Assessment

This course is assessed by continuous assessment, taking up 100% of the course grade. Three summative assignments, weighing 30–40% each, are included. No examination is required for this course.

Online requirement

Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
