Aims

This course aims to:

  1. provide students' with an overview of the principles and philosophies of palliative care, hospice care and end-of-life care;
  2. enhance students' understanding of and ability to critique contemporary issues in the extensive end-of-life care (EELC) context; and
  3. enhance students' ability to bring about changes in EELC delivery.

Contents

  1. Principles and philosophies of palliative care, hospice care and end-of-life care for different age groups
  2. Conventional and contemporary EELC models
  3. Interdisciplinary team approach in EELC
  4. Comprehensive health assessment for dying persons of different age groups
  5. Working with family caregivers in an EELC setting
  6. Clinical and ethical considerations in end-of-life decision making (1)
  7. Clinical and ethical considerations in end-of-life decision making (2)
  8. Legal issues in the end-of-life care context
  9. End-of-life care for the disadvantaged population
  10. Practice development in EELC
  11. A global perspective on the EELC reform
