ECON A231 introduces the principles of microeconomics, and demonstrates how these principles apply to current economic issues, especially those related to the economy of Hong Kong.
You are advised to have already studied a foundation-level course before attempting this course.
Aims
This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the microeconomics concepts needed to understand current economic and business issues. It provides practice in applying economic analysis and is designed to improve learners' understanding of how the economy operates.
Contents
The course covers the following topics:
- Demand, supply and markets
- Firm organization, production and cost
- Market structure and market power
- Factor markets
- Externalities, regulation and the public sector
Learning support
There will be eight two-hour tutorials and a four-hour day school
Assessment
There are two assignments and a final examination. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
