Research Project in Cultural and Heritage Tourism

Advisory prerequisite

You are advised to have completed the course CAHT A800F Graduate Research Writing and Methods for Cultural and Heritage Tourism before enrolling on this course.

Aims
CAHT A820F is one of the courses in the Master's Degree in Cultural and Heritage Tourism programme. The course is structured around an independent research project or dissertation that will be completed by each student individually through ongoing consultation with the student's the project/dissertation supervisor(s). The expected length of the project/dissertation is 10,000 to 12,000 words. The research project/ dissertation must be written in English.

The course aims to provide students with advanced and practical training in the capabilities that are required to conduct research and for scholarly interaction.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

• Identifying the research topic

• Reviewing the relevant literature

• Preparing a proper research proposal

• Collecting primary data

• Analysing research data

• Preparing and submitting the first draft of the research project/dissertation

• Presenting the research findings at a seminar

• Preparing and submitting the final version of the research project/dissertation

Learning support
The project supervisor will provide regular guidance to the student throughout the entire process of their research project. Sessions for oral presentations will also be arranged at appropriate times.

Assessment
The course evaluation will be based on the components of the Research Proposal (worth 30% of the total mark for the course), Oral Presentation (worth 20% of the total mark for the course) and the Final Research Project/ dissertation (worth 50% of the total mark for the course). Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
