Aims

The course aims to further enhance students' ability to fully engage with business and management theories and their applications in a real-world context. By working independently on an applied business project, students will be able to show their ability to integrate knowledge and skills learnt from the post-graduate programme and past learning experience to address a specified real-world managerial problem or business opportunity. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate creative and innovative skills in the investigation of business and management issues.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Identifying an idea for a business project: how to get started?
  • Business analysis tools and practice
  • Evidence collection and investigation plan
  • Action plan, ethical issues and business report

Learning Support

There will be a total of 18 hours of lecture hours plus consultation hours over three terms.

Assessment

The continuous assessment portion of the course accounts for 100% of the total course score. It consists of three written assignments (80%) and one compulsory oral presentation (20%). Students are required to submit written assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Online Requirement

The course is supported by the Online Learning Environment (OLE). Students can find the latest course information from the OLE. Through the OLE, students can communicate electronically with their tutor and the Course Coordinator as well as other students. Course materials are available in print form but students can also access them online. To access the OLE, students will need to have access to the Internet. The use of the OLE is required for the study of this course.

Equipment and Software

Students will need access to a personal computer with an Internet connection.

There is no set textbook for this course. However, to support and facilitate student's learning, selected readings, which include book chapters and journal articles, will be recommended under different study topics.
