 Stories of 2012 graduates

Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking and Finance An Assistant Vice President of a bank, Paul Wong is extremely busy from 9 am to 9 pm every day. Despite this, seeing that a qualifications framework would soon be implemented in the industry and aspiring to have better career prospects, Paul wanted to upgrade himself through study. He found the OUHK's flexible distance learning programme perfectly suited his needs. Paul praised the programme for its practicality and up-to-date content. He benefited greatly from discussions of the real-life cases provided by tutors, most of whom were working in the banking and commercial sectors. Paul also enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life on campus. He finds particularly memorable those evenings before examinations, when he and other students would go to Cheung Chau Island to do revision together. Paul just completed a BBA in Banking and Finance and plans to study for an MBA. He hopes to learn new ways of thinking so that he can lead his work team to even greater heights.
Fanny Wong
Master of Science in Energy and Environmental Sustainability While working in a hospital as a registered nurse, Fanny Wong completed a number of diploma and certificate programmes as well as a Bachelor's Degree in nursing, and got promoted thereafter. Wanting more time to take care of her children, she quit the full-time nursing job she had held for over ten years, and started teaching healthcare part-time at the OUHK and the Department of Health. Fanny has always liked exploring new things. In 2005, she enrolled in the OUHK's Master of Social Sciences in Liberal Studies programme. Two of the courses aroused her interest in environmental protection, so soon after completing the programme, she started studying in the Master of Science in Energy and Environmental Sustainability programme. She graduated in 2012. Having qualifications in both healthcare and environmental studies, Fanny is now teaching elderly care and environmental and public health at LIPACE as a part-time instructor.
Andy Ngo Chun-ning
Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours Andy Ngo started his career in the IT field after completing a Higher Diploma in Information Systems. Despite his outstanding performance, Andy received neither a raise nor a promotion as he did not hold a degree. He made up his mind to pursue a Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours degree at the OUHK and obtained the degree in December 2012. Andy never gives up and loves to challenge himself. He was deeply moved by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, seeing that living standards in the mainland keep improving but assistance and support during natural disasters are so inadequate. With an interest in psychology, Andy plans to study in a psychological counselling programme in mid-2013. He hopes that he can devote himself to counselling or social work one day to give back to society.
Doris Fung Sau-tak
Bachelor of Education with Honours in Primary Education (English Strand) As a primary school English teacher with a husband who has his own business, Doris Fung has had a comfortable life. During the wave of education reform, Doris felt the need to enhance her skills and upgrade her academic qualifications. She enrolled on the OUHK's Honours Degree programme in primary education. During her studies, however, her husband's business suffered a setback. Doris persisted in her studies despite the additional demands of looking after a family and teaching, and managed to obtain her degree in four years. Doris spends a tremendous amount of time on her students, who are underprivileged or have special learning needs. Infatuated with drama, Doris initiated drama education at school, which she has found very useful in enhancing students' learning ability. Many of her colleagues and friends have followed her example and embarked on studies, while Doris herself is now studying for a Master's Degree in education at the OUHK. |
