Laurels at Innovate for Future competition

Students from the School of Science and Technology took their projects to Innovate for Future 2024 and were rewarded with accolades. Ngai Tin-lok and Cheng Ho-kiu submitted the project “Gyming HK”, which proposed to develop a fitness coaching app. The project was appreciated and won the championship in the Tertiary Stream. Meanwhile, Lee Ho-chit received a Certificate of Merit with “Large Language Model (LLM) Bot Integration for Enhanced Technical Support”, a project in partnership with OptiMicro Technologies Inc., a Canadian software company.

Students' writings receive City Literary Awards

Students and a graduate from the Master of Arts in Creative Writing programme received accolades in the City Literary Awards 2024. Among them, Wu Lianxin won the Third Prize in Prose (Tertiary Group) with her work “Living Near Funeral Homes for Three Months”, Chen Xuening received a Recommendation Award in Fiction (Tertiary Group) with her short story “Hexagram of Fish”, and Huang Chuan and Fan Qingqi each received a Recommendation Award in Poetry (Tertiary Group) for their poems “Walking the Snowy Mountains (serial poem)” and “Fish in Victoria Harbour” respectively.

Student's eco-friendly design wins approval

Creative Writing and Film Arts programme student Joey Cheung Wing-tung teamed up with a student from another institution to participate in the BEST with LESS Hong Kong Tertiary Sustainable Packaging (F&B Industry) Design Competition organised by Maxim’s Group. They won the Outstanding Award with their eco-friendly design proposal “WINGIT — Simplicity Leads to Ultimate Sustainability” for containers and packaging.

Graduate filmmakers on a roll in overseas contests

Graduates from the Creative Writing and Film Arts programme Hugo Yeung Lap-zhing, Leung Tak-yip, Terry Tse Tsz-man and Chris Chu Ching-man took their graduation film work, In the Gaze of a Second, to a range of international film events. They received a number of awards and honours, including the Best Student Feature Film at the Montelupo Fiorentino International Independent Film Festival 2024, the Best Student Feature in the Liverpool Indie Awards (Winter Season 2024), the Best Feature at the Ukrainian Dream Film Festival 2023, the Best Feature Film and Best Actor at the Couch Film Festival (Fall 2023), the Best Indie Feature Film at the Costa Brava Film Festival 2023 and the Best Student Film in Season 10 of the Indie Cine Tube Awards 2023. They were also selected among the Young Film Makers (Under 25) at the Phare International Film Festival — Mauritius 2023 and won an Honourable Mention at the ARFF Berlin Around Films International Film Festival 2023.
