Using two computers at work simultaneously, with each hand managing a mouse, illustrates Voyce Li's multi-tasking skills at their best.

As a technical writer at the English Language Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Voyce coordinates and develops online and electronic learning tools to help students from various departments enhance their English language skills. She often has a number of projects on hand at the same time and works with three computers in her small office, all within her reach. Nevertheless, once she enters the cyber world, there is unlimited room for her creativity. There, the skills and knowledge she gained from her study on computing and information technology come in handy.

Despite her busy work, Voyce obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Computing and a Master of Science degree in Information Technology with Internet Applications in seven years. Her self-discipline, concentration and multi-tasking skills are among the key factors contributing to her achievement. As an active user of the OUHK's online learning system, Voyce found the concept of a centralized online learning platform a breakthrough in online education.

She said, ‘Taking the OUHK as an example, her online learning platform contains course materials, learning schedule, interactive tools such as email functions and discussion boards, as well as a personal folder, helping students to learn in a comprehensive and systematic way. In addition, we could access assignment topics, submit assignments and retrieve marked assignments via the platform quickly and conveniently.’

From Voyce's experience, e-learning does not alienate peer learners. On the contrary, she learned a lot from students' exchange of views and opinions in the virtual mode. She believed that online learning would be an important trend in continuing education.

Voyce was glad to be able to use what she learned at the University in her work. Her next goal is to study for a PhD degree with a research focus on IT or education.
