  4. Send print jobs to printer
    1. Select Print function from application, then select desired printer and set printing preferences if required, click Print or OK button to start sending print job.

    2. When prompted, enter your set of self-defined ID and password. This is extremely important since only jobs matching your set of ID and password will display on the printer. If a set of ID and password is not provided, the submitted print job will be deleted automatically by printer and unable to be retrieved for printing.

    3. Go to your selected printer, insert your Octopus Card, enter your set of self-defined ID and passowrd to retreive and release your print job. For details, refer quick guide posted near the printer.

  5. Special notes for printing on macOS
    1. This Service is faciliated through the support of Secure Print function at Konica Minolta printers. Due to the constraints of operating system and applications, some versions of applications, e.g. Pages, Numbers, Keynotes, Preview and Safari, fail to print via Konica Minolta's Secure Print function. The symptom is when submit a print job, user is not asked to input self-defined ID and password for it, the print job is therefore deleted by printer and unable to be retrieved for printing.

    2. However, the Secure Print function works normally when using most non-macOS native applications such as Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Mozilla Firefox and so on.

    3. Workaround soltuion for above printing issue: create a PDF version of the file by using the application's build-in function "save as PDF", and then use the free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC or alternatives to open and print the PDF file. For details, refer below items under 7. Any tips or hints for printing?:

      • #11. Download and install Acrobat Reader DC
      • #12. Hints on macOS: "Save a document as a PDF on Mac" and "Print from Adobe Acrobat on macOS (PDF)".

7. Any tips or hints for printing?
  1. Print only when you absolutely need to. Save money, save time and save the Earth.

  2. Use "Print Preview" before acutal printing to make sure the printout will look the way you expect it to.

  3. Ensure print to A4- or A3-sized paper only. Any documents with a different size paper may have problems printing.

  4. Don't print PDF file directly from browser to avoid unexpected print out due to long loading time. Download the file and print it by using a PDF reader (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader DC).

  5. If your file is huge in size, or rich in graphics, or has lots of pages, don't print the whole file at a time, print it into smaller page ranges with several times, e.g. Page 1-50, Page 51-100 and so on. Otherwise, it would take long time to print.
  6. Don't set self-defined ID or Password for Secure Print with "convenient" combination (e.g. 1111 or 1234 etc.) to minimise the chance of print job to be viewed and printed out.

  7. Don't forget your Octopus Card after printing.

  8. Always observe and respect copyright law.

  9. Update your credentials at your notebook after changed your HKMU password
  10. Common customable print out options
  11. Download and install Acrobat Reader DC
  12. Hints on Windows
    • Don't set the networked printer as default printer at your protable notebook. This is to avoid the slowing down of Microsoft office when it is intializing its printing function if your computer could not connect the printer.
