About the Conference

The Institute of International Business and governance (IIBG) of The Open University of Hong Kong will organize an ‘annual academia-industry exchange’ every year. In 2017, the annual academia-industry exchange includes two conferences of which one is an academic conference while another one is a practitioners’ conference. The practitioners’ conference with the theme of “Strengthening Innovation Capability for Global Competitiveness” will be held on 15 December 2017.

In the current business environment, corporate leaders must understand the nature of challenges emerged within a context where new technologies, digitalization trend, and novel business models have brought about disruptive changes, impacting significantly on the competitive terrain of different industries. Leaders in organizations, big and small, are increasingly expected to come up with new products, processes, and business models and to restructure existing markets or create new markets, many of which can only be identified and captured outside conventional industrial boundaries. It is the theme of this conference to discuss the impacts of various disruptive changes and how innovative capabilities could best be developed and used within corporations and industries, operating within an increasingly competitive and unpredictable context.

The Conference provides a platform for meaningful exchanges between academics and practitioners knowledgeable in the area of innovation and competition. Insights from multiple perspectives will be shared and up-to-date research findings and industry cases discussed.
